New PSPS for November 19
NO POWER SHUTOFFS FOR WUSD - ALL SCHOOLS SCHEDULED TO REMAIN OPEN
Hello (School or Windsor Unified School District) Families and Staff Members,
This is an important message to let you know that PG & E is advising us of a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event in Sonoma County, beginning tomorrow, November 20.. At this time, WIndsor schools and departments are NOT listed as having any power shutoffs and all Windsor schools and departments will remain OPEN. We will let you know as soon as reasonably possible if we receive information indicating any changes. Thank you for your patience.

The following PSPS message shows up for all WUSD schools and facilities and has been verified directly with our PG&E representative:
No Impact: This location is NOT currently expected to be impacted by a Public Safety Power Shutoff, though surrounding areas may be. By providing your specific address information in this tool, you are getting a more accurate view than the PSPS area map. If we expect this address to be impacted, we will attempt to call, text or email by using the phone number or email address currently on file.
NO anticipation of a PSPS for WUSD and therefore no anticipation of closing schools. If information changes (we have no control over this), updates will be provided as soon as reasonably possible. It is important to know, as well, that PG&E has recently communicated that they may not have PSPS information about planned outages until a time closer to a necessary PSPS event (meaning that there is a possiblity for notices of a power shutoff to go out within hours of an event). We have reasonable assurance, at this current time/PSPS event, that we should not be impacted.

Hello Windsor Unified School District Families and Staff Members,
We hope that you are returning safely to your homes and positively readjusting from the recent Kincade Fire. As you may be experiencing, it has taken time to get power and gas restored to our community. Our schools are included. Also, we must make sure that all of our schools are completely cleaned, inspected, and certified to safely return staff and students to them.

Therefore, all schools are planning to re-open for students on Thursday, November 7. All employees are to check their emails for detailed information.

FIRE UPDATE FOR WINDSOR:
Good morning, Windsor.
Here’s an update on the Kincade Fire and matters of concern to Windsor residents. It’s looking like we may experience heavy winds through tonight and things should calm by Wednesday morning (per Cal Fire). The good news is that we are looking to re-populate Windsor very soon, I am hoping within the next few days. We are working with Cal Fire, law enforcement, and public works officials to make this call. Thank you for your patience with the re-entry process as we all wait to return to our homes.
Here are some fire details as of 7:00 am this morning on 10/29/19 -
- Fire is now at 75,415 acres and containment has increased to 15%
- Full containment is expected by November 7th
- First Responder injuries: 2
- Civilian injuries: 0
- Total structures destroyed: 124
(57 residential, 5 commercial, 62 other)
- Total structures damaged: 23
(15 residential, 1 commercial, 7 other)
WINDSOR losses:
(per Fire Chief Mark Heine)
Unfortunately, 2 houses on Vinecrest did burn. These were just outside of Town limits. Additionally, 2 houses were lost and 2 were damaged on Shiloh Ridge. To those who lost their homes, my heartfelt apology for your losses. Please know that we are here to support you. ❤️
Weather conditions: Wind will pick up TODAY and serious fire fighting will resume.
CalFire will work with local officials to determine when Windsor can "repopulate.” The sequence (Countywide) is likely to be in reverse order of evacuation - e.g., West County is now open for return and has now converted to “Evacuation Warning" status
We will continue to post updates as we learn new information and will ABSOLUTELY let you know ASAP when we learn that the evacuation order has been lifted for Windsor
* PLEASE text or call me if you have any questions. I am available to you. I can be reached directly at (707) 608-8321
Thank you,
Esther Lemus

WINDSOR: This is the most updated news from this morning's county press conference. We are all watching the winds today to make sure they don't blow the fire west again toward the 101 corridor, which includes us. This is why we all ask for your CONTINUED PATIENCE as we try to protect you! Also there is a CODE BLUE warning for the rest of the week for freezing temps at night. Please make sure you are bundled up and in a warm place! We will continue to keep you updated. Below is a photo of the National Guard who are protecting your homes and keeping people out for safety reasons. The Guard is at all entrances to Windsor and within the town as well. ❤️

In the last two years WE granted over $80,000 to WUSD classrooms for STEM, the arts in all forms, culinary programs, PE equipment, and more. Without the support of this event, many programs WE has funded in the past will not be funded.

The Board and Superintendent invite to join in a Tour of our New Facilities & Facility Improvements. The tour will begin on Tuesday, August 20th at 4:15 pm at Brooks in the new Library; from there we will caravan in our own cars to WMS to see the Culinary Classroom, and on to Cali to see the new playground, ending the tour at WHS to see the new stadium with it's turf, bleachers and bathrooms. After the tour, we will recess to Closed Session in Bldg 500 and then Open Session in Bldg 400.

WUSD Board Approves Appointment of
New Assistant Principal at Windsor Middle School
During a Meeting of the Windsor Unified School District on Tuesday, August 6th, the School Board approved the appointment of Carolina (Carol) Castro Ballard as our new Assistant Principal of Windsor Middle School. Ballard will be stepping into the role served by Erin Elliot who has returned to her former District as a high school AP.
Ballard has served for the past seven years, as an Elementary Principal in the Bellevue Union District. She wants to return to her secondary roots and was excited to see the opening at WMS with all of its innovative programs. Ballard has described herself as a transformative leader and has many proud accomplishments including: improved learning and test scores through rigorous instruction, raising almost a half million dollars to provide for arts and technology integration; and starting a dual immersion program, which included collaborative work with the Sonoma State University dual immersion teacher preparation program.
Ballard is bilingual and bicultural and brings that strength to our leadership team. She has worked diligently in her career to construct pathways for her Spanish speaking parents and community, bringing in more Hispanic parent leaders and improving diversity recognition across special events and visual representation within the school. She also has extensive experience with Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS) and technology intervention.
Ballard brings over 25 years of experience in education, holding a Master’s Degree in Special Education, and credentials/certification in Administrative Services, RSP, Education Specialist, Single Subject, and CLAD. Prior to going into administration, she was a Resource Specialist teacher for 15 years working in both public and non-public schools.
Please join WUSD in welcoming Carol Ballard to her new role for the 2019-20 school year.
